Stephen Dent’s Cooking changed my Life!

Hey guys! James Fincher here! I’m excited to blog about this new website I came across and where I am getting all of my cooking advice. It’s found at: http://www.stephendentcooking.com/

Let me start off by saying that the Marcello Rivera story on the Stephen Dent Cooking site really caught my eye because I’m just like him! I’m in my 20s and just now I’m learning how to cook. It’s pretty funny when you think about it. But I’m glad guys like Stephen Dent made this site. There should definitely be more blogs like this. I mean, I know a lot of people who don’t really cook. There is really a lot more people than you think there are out there who need help. Thank god for Stephen Dent, that’s all I’m saying.

First off, I wanted to share with everyone the first dish I started on while undergoing this crazy journey or self-exploration: It’s a baked parmesan zucchini and it was super good! Here are the instructions according to Stephen:

The first thing is merely to buy a couple of decent sized zucchini and then cut them, lengthwise, into spears, cutting them into fourths or eights. Then, in a small bowl, combine a suitable combination of Parmesan, thyme, oregano, basil, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. The prep time is not any more than 10 minutes or more, and after that you throw it in to the oven to be baked for approximately a quarter-hour before broiling it for the next 2-3 minutes in an effort achieve a exterior that is golden-brown.

After this dish I started to gain more confidence and I moved onto the next which was the blackberry pork-loin. Stephen Dent himself even says, “It really is truly an accomplishment of stamina and endurance” to cook this meal. I tend to agree! Man this was a hard one but I did it! With my mom’s help of course. Haha, I’m so sneaky.

One of the things I like about this blog in particular is that Dent is an advocate of going off course from the recipe and doing things your way when cooking. So now when I cook I tell me family I am doing my dishes the Fincher way! It always gets a laugh. There are so many combinations of food I can make now. Shout out to Stephen Dent for making this all possible!

UPDATE

After I learned how to cook with Stephen Dent’s site I decided to teach my family everything I had learned. I have a sister who doesn’t know how to cook and I wanted to make sure for when she gets married that she can cook for her family! So I started out easy – I taught her how to make eggs. Stephen would love this, I told her “surprise me” when we set up the dishes and those were her instructions. I let her pick any type of egg she wanted (she chose hard boiled). After the eggs I had her make English muffins with butter and jam…mmmhhhmmmm! Yummy!
